History of Jedi Order, Lesson 2

Early history(continued.)

From the ashes of these wars arose the early Jedi, and their Jedi Forge initiation ceremony, which led to the eventual invention of lightsabers after they faced threats from beyond Tython.

Through the use of advanced off-world technology, the Jedi were able to "freeze" a laser beam, resulting in the birth of the …

The Force...

Thu Sep 24, 2009 1:16 am by Saiana

The Force was a metaphysical, binding, and ubiquitous power that held enormous importance for both the Jedi and Sith monastic orders. The Force was viewed in many different aspects, including, but not limited to, the light side, the dark side, the Unifying Force, and the Living Force. The first two aspects were concerned with the moral compass of the Force in its various manifestations. The light …

The Lightsaber

"This was the formal weapon of a Jedi Knight. Not as clumsy or random as a blaster. More skill than simple sight was required for its use. An elegant weapon. It was a symbol as well. Anyone can use a blaster or a fusioncutter—but to use a lightsaber well was a mark of someone a cut above the ordinary."
―Obi-Wan Kenobi

Designed as much for elegance in combat as for ceremony, the …

History of the Jedi, Lesson 1

Earliest History.

"Many ancient and semi-legendary organizations have been proposed to be the forerunners of the Jedi Order, including the Order of Dai Bendu, the Followers of Palawa, and the Chatos Academy. No conclusive links have ever been demonstrated, though. It is purported that early Jedi learned morality from the Caamasi."

The earliest documentation of the existence of the Jedi Order indicates that the organization was formally founded on Tython around 25,783 BBY, several hundred years before the founding of the Galactic Republic. The galaxy's best philosophers, priests, scientists, and warriors had come together here millennia before to discuss their discoveries involving the enigmatic and mystical Ashla. Unfortunately, many became seduced by what was called the Bogan, and sought to seize power. The resulting Force Wars devastated Tython for over a decade.

The Order of Dai Bendu.

The Order of Dai Bendu, also known as the Bendu, was one of the many ancient and semi-legendary organizations that studied the Force and the midi-chlorians prior to the birth of the Jedi Order on Tython. The ancient order arose on the planet Thape and consisted of monks dedicated to non-confrontation and the study of numerology. The Bendu monks believed that the the number eight represented the unification of the galaxy by the Force, and the eight-spoked circular sigil they created later adorned the starfighters of the Jedi Knights and saw use as the insignia of the Old Republic. At some point, the practitioners of the ancient order were known to reside on the snow-covered world of Ando Prime.

The Followers of Palawa

The Followers of Palawa were an ancient group that studied the Force and midichlorians.

The Followers of Palawa fled their homeworld of Palawa to the nearby planet of Bunduki after Palawa was destroyed in a long-ago war somehow involving the Jedi Council.

The Followers of Palawa developed the martial art of Teräs Käsi as a means to keep the Jedi in check, presumably so that another world would not be destroyed by the Jedi Council.

(Teräs Käsi, or "steel hand" in Basic, was an unarmed combat discipline. It was created on the planet Bunduki by the Followers of Palawa. However, Teräs Käsi drew upon their own internal force power, whereas the Jedi draw from everything around them.)

During the First Great Schism, many of the Followers, including Arden Lyn, fell to the dark side and joined the Minions of Xendor.

(Minions of Xendor" originally referred to to the followers of Xendor, the first Dark Jedi, also once known as the Legions of Lettow. The phrase evolved over time into an expletive commonly heard among smugglers.)

The Followers were still in existence, as hermits, on Bunduki, in the years following the Clone Wars. The mother of Zan and Zu Pike placed her young daughters in their care during the first decade of the Galactic Empire.

Chatos Academy

The Chatos Academy is one of the many ancient and semi-legendary organizations that have been proposed as forerunners of the Jedi Order, but no conclusive links have ever been shown. The Academy originated on Palawa; it was a kind of chivalric order and its members were entitled Paladins.

The Caamasi

History of the Jedi, lesson 1 Caamasi_NEGAS

The Caamasi (pronounced /kɑɑ'mɑsi/) were a species of furred humanoids known for their compassionate and peace-loving nature; indeed, the name Caamasi came to mean "friend from afar" and "stranger to be trusted" in some languages across the galaxy.

Caamasi possessed great moral strength and respect for others. They were among the galaxy's finest diplomats and mediators, often solving severe conflicts in a matter of days.

It was said in ancient legend that at the dawning of their age of existence, the Jedi came to the Caamasi for instruction on how to dictate the moral use of their powers, which could explain why the teachings of the Jedi Code have a great deal in common with the oft-inherit wisdom of the Caamasi.

Caamasi had the interesting ability to share vivid memories called memnii with their near relatives and Jedi. A memnis was as vivid to one who received it as it was to the one participated in the event remembered.

Unfortunately, the Caamasis' pacifism was at odds with Emperor Palpatine's New Order, and they suffered greatly under Imperial rule. A few months after the end of the Clone Wars, the surface of their homeworld, Caamas was bombarded, killing millions. After the destruction of their planet's environment, many refugees moved to Alderaan, Kerilt and Susevfi.

Perhaps because of the closeness in their philosophy to the Jedi Code could be another reason why Palpatine felt it necessary to eliminate them.

"If the wind no longer calls to you, it is time to see if you have forgotten your name."
―Elegos A'Kla

Ashla

History of the Jedi, lesson 1 Lightsiders_btm

The light side of the Force, also commonly known as the Ashla or simply the Force, was the side of the Force aligned with honesty, compassion, mercy, self-sacrifice, and other positive emotions. For the most part, the Jedi simply referred to this as the Force.

"A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense. Never for attack."
―Yoda

"It is simple enough to know the light. A Jedi must feel the tension between the two sides of the Force; in himself, and in the universe."
―Thon

Bogan

History of the Jedi, lesson 1 Darksiders_btm

The dark side of the Force, called Bogan by ancient Force-sensitives, was an aspect of the Force. Those who used the dark side were known as either Darksiders or Dark Jedi when unaffiliated with a dark side organization such as the Sith. Unlike the Jedi, who were famous for using the light side of the Force, dark-siders drew power from raw emotions like pain, hatred, passion, and love.

"The dark side clouds everything."
―Yoda

"The dark side offers power for power's sake."
―Darth Revan's Holocron

Tython

History of the Jedi, lesson 1 Tython-TOR

Tython was a planet in the Deep Core. It was the planet where the Jedi Order originated, in the form of the first society of Force users in known history, sometime between 36,453 BBY and 25,990 BBY.

"Though still committed to defending the Republic, the Jedi relocated to their ancient homeworld of Tython to rest, meditate, and seek guidance from the Force."
―Gnost-Dural

"How am I to know the good side from the bad?"
"You will know, when you are calm. At peace, passive."
―Luke Skywalker and Yoda
